NERAX is organized by CASC, the Cask-Conditioned Ale Support Campaign. CASC is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to boosting awareness of and demand for Real Ale in New England.

The New England Real Ale Exhibition, benefiting the VFW, is held each spring at the George Dilboy Post, Davis Square, Somerville, MA.

NERAX is our flagship Festival. We offer about 80 firkins of Real Ale. Half will be U.K. beers from England, Scotland, and Wales; and half will be American beers from New England. All the beers are cask-conditioned, served by gravity or hand-pump.

ABOUT CASC

CASC (the Cask-conditioned Ale Support Campaign) was formed in the spring of 1997 to promote real ale festivals in the Boston area. It was established to promote and educate brewers, publicans, and the public about the brewing, distribution, and pleasures of real ale. We are dedicated to the sensible enjoyment of top-fermented, traditionally brewed ales that undergo a secondary fermentation in the vessel from which they are served. CASC is a group of like-minded individuals who seek to expand the awareness of producers, distributors, and consumers about the use of traditional ingredients in, and dispensing of, real ales.

CASC has an open membership consisting of professional brewers, publicans, home brewers, and beer lovers who volunteer their time to plan and execute real ale events. Proceeds from each event are invested in maintaining and upgrading our equipment, educating the public, and starting the next event. The main events are the annual New England Real Ale Exhibitions (NERAX) and the new NERAX North, featuring open tastings of real ales collected from the UK and the US.

Our festivals, in addition to the open tastings, have included educational sessions, cellaring workshops, and brewer's symposiums featuring experts from Britain and the US explaining the technology used in producing fine real ales. This outreach is crucial for the spread of cask-conditioned ales in our area. CASC also participated in other beer festivals in the region.
